To start off, I wrote a new article this week:
A Competition Not Worth Winning: Thinking Clearly About our Coaching Careers
📚 Best of the Week
The best of what I’ve been consuming over the last week.
1. 👥The High Return Activity of Raising Others’ Aspirations
A short but good one by Tyler Cowen:
At critical moments in time, you can raise the aspirations of other people significantly, especially when they are relatively young, simply by suggesting they do something better or more ambitious than what they might have in mind. It costs you relatively little to do this, but the benefit to them, and to the broader world, may be enormous.
This is in fact one of the most valuable things you can do with your time and with your life
2. 🗣What Makes a Great Conversation
You might remember some of my recent musings on the art of conversation, specifically asking better questions.
What if it was possible to engineer great conversations? To increase the number of conversations that fill us up, connect us to people, advance our ideas, and help us go further, higher, and deeper?
This article is a great resource to help us get there.
The lesson: by looking for “launch points” — shared experiences that accelerate the conversation — we can drastically improve the quality of our conversations.
🏆 Become an MVP
The Monday Morning Edge MVP program is an opportunity for you to go deeper into each week’s newsletter, accelerating your learning and helping you become the best coach you can be!
Some of the smartest coaches across multiple sports have already signed up.
Coaches like Eric Jagers, Assistant MLB Pitching Coach for the Cincinnati Reds.
Here’s what he had to say about becoming a newsletter MVP:
No brainer. Tanner’s weekly newsletter provides incredible value and is applicable to all who want to get better (not just coaches). This takes it a step further.
Want to be like Eric?
Let’s do this.
That’s all for this week. Thanks for hanging out!
If you’re enjoying this newsletter, would you consider sharing it with someone you know?
You can send them this link and tell them what your favorite thing about it is! 🙏
Looking forward to doing this again next week Monday at 6 AM EST.
Appreciate you starting your week here,
Tanner
